In August of 2021, The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York entered into a private settlement agreement with Alexis Nunez. This action ended the civil litigation that was opened on September 28th, 2016. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While neither the plaintiff nor the legal parties involved may discuss the terms of the settlement agreement, the case documents amassed over a 5-year period are a matter of public record and may be presented on this site as a historical record of the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is much to learn from these documents, the trial, the appeal to the Montana Supreme Court, and the ensuing battle that followed when the case entered a new phase in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the end, the Jehovah’s Witnesses decided that their fight against turning over critical documents was a greater risk than the cost of agreeing to a financial settlement. While Watchtower will never admit guilt or defeat, the settlement is a victory for Ms. Nunez and survivors of child abuse everywhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
